Appreciation
"Appreciation is a fundamental human desire."
What I mean here is strictly speaking about the R factor- "Recognition." the yearning we all feel goes well beyond recognition. We want to feel appreciated. We want to be understood for our full worth.
So how do we do that?
Brick by brick. With a clear goal, we know what our contribution is to what we're building. When we recognize a colleague, we appreciate ourselves. Voltaire said it best: "Appreciation makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well."
So whether we are grading people for appraisal, Just judging their work & actions or working to build a culture of collaboration, remember what John Doerr said: "The point of objectives and key results, after all, is to get everyone working on the right things."
We must learn to appreciate that??
